The lesson gives review of information and communications technology/technologies (ICT) in language teaching and learning (word-processing and e-mail; search engines; websites; project work social software; mobile learning).
By the end of the lesson the course participants will have:
- reviewed their previous experiences of the main technologies of ICT learning;
- discussed the advantages and disadvantages of using them in language learning and teaching;
- discussed their expectations from the module.
This lesson is devoted to matters of developing critical awareness of the Internet materials, to evaluate the Internet as a learning tool, through web site evaluation criteria, to help learners better understand the quality of Internet information. Improvement of students’ critical-thinking skills in using the Internet will assist to filter the information from the point of view of its content, structure, accuracy, authority and objectivity.
By the end of this lesson participants will be able to:
- demonstrate an
awareness of choosing relevant sources, and an appreciation of the need to make
it meaningful and suitable to needs and interests;
- distinguish the
main types of critical-thinking and decision-making skills relating to computer
- demonstrate the
safe and cooperative use of technology which helps learners protect themselves
from inappropriate behavior online;
- raise learners’
awareness of the danger types and potential risks involved in the Internet use
and show where Internet users can obtain additional information and assistance
regarding Internet safety.

This lesson introduces participants to the key concepts in ICT, the reasons, objectives, methods, ways as well as importance of adding technology to LT. It will help learners to better understand the importance of information technology literacy, types of technology tools and the specificity of terminology in ICT, as well as help them to create their own glossary.
By the end of the lesson the participants will have:
- been introduced to
the reasons and approaches to using technology;
- developed technology
- developed critical
awareness in using ICT terminology;
- created their own ICT
